This holiday season, transform your digital photos into real Polaroid pictures with the all-new Polaroid Lab. Not a printer, not a scanner, just an instant formula for timeless images. The Polaroid Lab takes the digital and makes it analog. From something on a screen to a tangible thing, a moment to be shared with a friend, an experience that you can hold in your hand.
With the Polaroid Lab, you can turn your most precious smartphone photos into tangible Polaroid photographs — or better yet, a personalized holiday card. Why store your favorite photo on the fridge door or the cloud when they can add a smile to a loved one this Christmas. But you can even take it to another level, you can add augmented reality (AR) feature to your Polaroid photo! That’s right, you can make your photo come to life. Keep reading, I’ll tell you how.
You’ll need a couple of supplies besides the Polaroid Originals Lab Printer to make your own personalized holiday card. I grabbed a few blank note cards, ribbon, markers, and holiday stickers from a local crafts supplies store. I kept my card simple, I want to make sure nothing takes the focus away from my main feature, the Polaroid photo.
You’ll want to set up your Polaroid device as instructed in the box. Once you’ve charged it up and added your film, you’ll want to download the Polaroid Originals app to start the printing process. Open the app and select the Polaroid Lab icon to select a single photo.
Once you selected your favorite image, you can continue to the next steps. However, if you would like to add a video into your pictures and view with AR for a special experience, you’ll need to add the video where it says “Add media”, located in the left corner of the app. See below. Here’s a tip: the video you would like to use must be less than 60 seconds long in order to function.
You’re all set to print your image for your special holiday card. But before you do make sure to check your phone settings. To get the best results you’ll need to turn off your night shift and select True Tone on your phone display. Turn on your device and place your phone screen down on the platform and wait until the rainbow lights up. You’ll see the instructions pop up on your app directing you how to do this.
Once your photo comes out, make sure to keep the photo upside down away from light for the best results. It’s recommended to leave the photo alone for about 15 minutes, but I say the longer the better. If you see that the exposure is too bright, you can always adjust the light settings in the app before you hit the red button.
Go ahead and decorate your personalized card any way you like while you wait. Once it’s ready you’ll be able to view the AR feature on your card. In order to view this feature, you’ll need to log back into the mobile app and select the “AR Viewer”. Scan the photo you added the video and watch your photo come to life. This is perfect if you would also like to add a special hidden message or just a special video that’s related to the image you selected. Like I did with our wedding photo from our 7 Weddings, 7 Continents photo from Mexico.
