Did you know that Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day is the busiest time of the year for restaurants? Especially if you’re planning to attend a Mother’s Day brunch. Not only do you have to book your reservation early at your mom’s favorite spot, but you can also expect to pay a pretty good penny. So unless you already booked your reservation, I have a different solution that will make mom even happier, prepare her the perfect Mother’s Day Brunch in bed. Not only will she love this gesture, but its also an affordable solution.

Our Mexican Mother’s Day Tradition

As a Mexican-American family, we actually celebrate two Mother’s Days. Traditionally, Mexico celebrates Mother’s Day every May 10th. Mothers and mother figures are given flowers, cards, candy, and other gifts that symbolize appreciation, respect and love. In Mexico, it doesn’t alternate every second Sunday in the month of May and it’s also not a public holiday, Mothers’ Day is an observance.

So like clockwork, we would celebrate Mexican Mother’s Day every 10th. It wasn’t until we started having kids of our own that we started celebrating Mother’s Day on the second week of each month. We would honor our mother on the 10th, and as mother’s ourselves, we would celebrate us on the second Sunday of May.

Mother’s Day Brunch Menu Plan

All though our mom doesn’t mind exploring new restaurants on occasion, it’s not her first choice. She prefers to celebrate Mother’s Day at home with all her children and grandchildren. So every year, that’s what we would do. We would get together and prepare a brunch at home or a good carne asada for lunch. This year, I’m preparing mom a delicious Mother’s Day Brunch and then head out for an afternoon tea.

I know what you’re thinking, why do all the work, when you can just go out and have someone prepare it for you. Well, because like I  mentioned earlier, it can get crowded and expensive, especially if you have a big family. Plus, preparing a brunch for mom with your own two hands makes it extra special for her. And you know what, it doesn’t have to be expensive.

With that in mind, here’s what I have in mind this year:

Budget $25

The ALDI Experience

Yes, you read that right, our budget is $25 for this meal preparation. Can we do it? At first I wasn’t sure it would be possible. But then I discovered ALDI supermarket. I’ve never been to one, but I hear through friends that ALDI offers quality foods at low prices, with exclusive brands that are just as good as well known brands, sometimes even better. You can save up to 50% any day of the year, compared to other competitors.  So naturally, I was up for the challenge and drove out to my nearest ALDI with my grocery list.

Here’s what I discovered, fresh veggies and fruits, which I learned that ALDI works with local farmers to ensure they arrive from the fields to the store fast and FRESH! They also had an amazing wine and beer collection at amazing prices. I actually picked up a bottle of Spanish Cava, 89 points, for my Guava Champagne Mimosas for $7.99. But most important, did they have my Mexican ingredients for my Mexican Brunch Menu? Why, yes they did! Chorizo, .89 cents, jalapeños $1.49, eggs $1.48, flan .88 cents and guava juice .43 cents. You know that if you tried to get these ingredients elsewhere, the prices would be much higher! Considering how low their prices are, its guaranteed to provide Hispanic communities with healthy options when preparing good meals for their families. You don’t have to buy in bulk or collect coupons to save money. I like that.

If you haven’t explored into an ALDI supermarket yet, its definitely worth checking out. I’m sure it will become one of your favorite stores. Click here for a location near you.

Mexican Chorizo Frittata Recipe

Now for the part some of you have been asking about, how to prepare that delicious Chorizo Frittata. I actually shared the step by step process on my Instastories. You could still view it if you visit my Instagram profile, I saved it just for you. But as far as the recipe goes, just keep scrolling down.

As for the Guava Mimosa, try ALDI’s Cava ($7.99), rated at 89 points, which means it’s good. Add Guava juice (.43 cents) and add to bubbly. For the flan, well, we’re in luck, because ALDI already has them made for you in the fridge section and its delicious! (.88 cents).

So did I meet my budget goal? I sure did, total came out to $24.65!
