Pacifico Dance Company Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary with Mexican History, Myth and Folklore

You know it’s a Mexican fiesta when there’s folklorico dancers and Mariachi’s involved.  If you’re a big fan of folklorico, Mexican art and music, then you’ll love the Pacifico Dance Company. The group is led by an amazing Latina, Adriana Astorga-Gainey who is a highly trained dancer and combines choreography that fuses the traditional dance with modern.

In celebration of Pacifico Dance Company 25th Anniversary, Saturday, August 12th, the dance Company returns to the Ford Theatres with Mexico, De Tierra a Mar performance. This is a one night only performance that will explore early Mexican history, myth and folktales through a blend of traditional and contemporary dance.  So if you’re lucky, you might be able to grab some seats!

Dancers will transform the newly renovated Ford stage into the ancient underworld of Mictlan, a mythical Aztec world. Plus the performance will also include the legendary Mexican folktale, La Llorona, the crying woman. As told in Oaxaca, this dance portrays the story of a woman betrayed by her lover who dies of a broken heart.  There’s nothing more scary than a scorned woman! You know this is going to be good.

“It is a great honor to perform once again on the historic Ford Theatres stage,” said Adriana Astorga-Gainey, Pacifico Dance Company director. “To celebrate our 25-year journey with this performance is truly spectacular and we are thrilled to share this remarkable showcase of the color, traditions, myths and sounds of Mexico.”

Other dances to expect from this beautiful performance will be from Mexican regions like Costa Chica, Nayarit, Jalisco, and the premiere of a dance from Yucatan. Let’s not forget the special guests – Mariachi Los Toros, a dynamic group of professional musicians whose passion for music is as evident as Pacifico’s devotion to the preservation of cultural roots through dance.

If you’re looking for rich Mexican culture and art, then this performance will definitely satisfy you.

The show will begin at 8:30 pm at the Ford Theatres located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East, Los Angeles, CA 90068 (just off the 101, Hollywood and Universal Studios in the Cahuenga Pass).
